Hello John

I brush on the really dark and keep it wet. I let it dry to the touch and if there any streaks I brush them out with more dye. I soon follow with the oil stain to lock it in. when the piece is soaked with the stain, I rub central areas with beartex to get a shadowed effect, with darker areas in the corners and edges…. Highlighting or shading certain areas of interest. I then wipe off the excess with a rag. Rub more if neeeded and follow with more dye or oil stain to taste. Let dry.

Seedlac is a type of shellac. It is the bottom of the barrel, with twigs, rocks and bug parts. I screen it when mixed thru a piece of nylon to get out most of the chunks. sedlac is like garnet shellac except darker with more depth.

Thanks Dan!

So you put the mahogany stain on while it is still wet?

Yep put it on right away. Don't hold back ! Forgot to say I spike the minwax oil finish with a little japanese dryer. Sometimes a dash of oil soluable dye to sweeten up the brown colors.

I rag everything off and wait a few hours and give it a spit coat of seedlac and let'r sit for a couple days and cure. then multible coats of seelac and dark paste wax gooped on and then rubbed off leaving the pores full.

you have to work like you love it and have a passion to gett'r done

I think this is my favorite of all your pieces, these 3 pieces are really great, and just have a life all their own. Superb job.
