Project Information

Cedar Buckets x 3.
A friend gave me a stack of cedar siding cut-offs a few months ago, so I decided to put them to good use. Earlier, I made one bucket, and now this set of three buckets used up nearly all of the rest of it.
The buckets are each crafted in the same fashion….12 tapered staves…10 of them 10 inches tall, and two 12 inches. The staves taper from 3 inches wide at the top to 2.5 inches at the bottom, and are cut using a home made sled on the table saw, with the blade set at a 15 degrees angle. All of the staves have a dado cut near the bottom to house the cabinet grade plywood bottom. After the assembly with Titebond III and band clamps, I freehand off the corners on the outside with my jointer, gradually working toward a round contour. After sanding from 80-220 grit, I finished these with Danish oil, installed the leather bands and the bentwood handles. They make great magazine racks, kindling holders, or will house a potted plant.
One of these will go to the guy who provided the wood, and the rest are up for sale.

Very nicely done. I really appreciate the instructions as I would like to try this. I guess it's on my "bucket list" also. Thanks for sharing!

Those are very nice John.
I may have to copy these and I have the wood and leather and with your good instructions all I need is to make the taper jig and it would also give me a chance to use my new hand plane .

Those are great. Just out of curiousity, what do you charge for the ones that are for sale?
