Project Information

I just recently celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary, and as part of the celebration my wife and I took a private wood turning class together (neither of us having ever turned anything before).

I was able to set this up at McLaughlin Woods, where I had recently taken a joinery class. We had a load of fun and a lathe may well be in my shops future.

We ended up the day each making two turnings, one dry and other from a green cherry burl.

My Bowl from a dry blank

I decided in mid-turn that I wanted to try to do some hollow turning and didn't make a bowl per se but more of a vase shaped thingy that we might put a t-light candle in or something like that.

All in all it was load of fun!

Now that's a way to celebrate your anniversary!
I especially like the burl turnings.
The bottom burl pictured looks like a muffin :)

I agree with Marty.

Glad to see another woodworker get the turning bug….be careful though….it is seriously addicting…and you may need to join a self help group to kick the habit (lol). Repeat after me - Hi, my name is (state your name here) and I am a turning addict…....there don't you feel better now? LOL.

Wow, congrats on the twentieth anniversary. My wife and I are working on our twenty-fifth year, but She would never get that close to a power tool. It might be nice to have her take an interest in a wood working tool, but then I would have to share….....

Nice bowls.

Nice looking bowls. Just getting into turning too. It seems to be extremely hooky.
