Project Information

This is a plywood box I just finished. It is covered with angrie veneer and all the edges have black and white piping. The top is curved and has a marquetry of the theater logo comedy/tragedy. The interior has brass quadrant hinges and a full mortise brass lock. The entire interior is covered with off white thick velour, the lid is also off white velour with black satin ribbon and brass buttons. The lift out tray is white poplar with black piping and black splines. Finished in oil based poly, 11"W x 9"D x 7"H. Thanks for looking.

Oh, Tom, a homerun! The art-deco feel of this piece is amazing. From the marquetry to the lining, the tray, every things seems to fit. The craftsmanship is, of course, true to your standards…...exchellent.

Tom,
Nice one. Great choice using a less vibrant veneer which let's the marquetry on the lid be the center of attention. The triple black lines repeating in the lock escutcheon provide just enough accent. We'll done indeed.

Thanks for the comments everyone, Richard I form the top by gluing two 1/12" layers of ply over a wood form, the veneer and marquetry are already on one of those plys.

"This is a plywood box I just finished" ..... I love it, just a plywood box.

A little more than that I'd say Tom. Your attention to the smallest detail really sets your boxes apart from most and your curved tops are becoming a trademark as well. This one is just lovely.

If I had one suggestion it would be to encourage you to try some sand shading. It would really make those ribbons pop. This is not a criticism, just a suggestion. The box is great just as it is.

Very elegant and well done details on this box. Nice to see boxes that are of the rectangel shape. The curvs inside and the use of colours is very tasteful.

Now that is for someone very special … I can tell! I love how you've carried the 'Theatre' theme to the inside as well, giving this box such a polished performance. Masterful Marquetry and complete veneering … no one would suspect there is a plywood base underneath all that beauty Tom!!
