Project Information

This one is called "The Conway Packaging Problem"

This one is even easier than the last one. Thiere are only 3 different pieces.

They are made to whatever unit size you want.

For example 2 inches x 4 inches x 1 inch or 20mm x 40mm x 10mm.

Make the following pieces:

6 each 2×4 x 1 units
6 each 2×3 x 2 units
5 each 1×1 x 1 units

You can see them in the second picture above.

I made these out of Sapele. I haven't decided on a finish yet or if I will make a box to hold them.

The third picture is the solution. Try it without looking at it first. Not easy at all.

Again I have included a Sketchup drawing which you can find here.

This reminds of summer vacation when I was a kid. Dad, Mom and five kids in a 1960 station wagon with 2 two weeks of camping gear and supplies. That'll teach you how to pack.

Russel, the term 'young and dumb': We took three kids, age 6,4,and2 in a Honda 2 door hatchback, from NE Ohio to LA California, for 3 weeks in January. 3 days to get there, four days to get home and we had so much fun.

Gary,

Again, a really COOL project… and SIMPLE!

I think I'd just use BLO, Mineral Oil, or maybe a stain/oil… something to keep the smooth slick WOOD feel…

Thank you very much!

I got a PM asking how I safely cut these small pieces. Thought that you all might be interested.
