Project Information

Two Christmas's ago I finally got my lathe up and working that I inherited from my grandfather. My wife and her sisters decided that we would all make stuff that the all the kids (ours and their cousins) can come through and pick out to gift to each other. I turned harry potter wands galore and bent lamination wooden rings with stone or wood inlays. I also decided to make some sling shots for the older kids (with permission from parents of course), and I made a matching ring for my wife's father and my daughter out of antler with obsidian inlay because they were hunting buddies, so now they have matching hunting rings. One niece couldn't make it up so we sent her a ring and wand, and some scroll sawed animals for her wooden train set. the bowl was my first bowl done scroll saw style out of a pine board, used for our basket on our basket exchange, and I just found out a few weeks ago, even after 2 almost 3 years, they are still using it (good feelings :D)

I just saw this. Very impressive. You did a wonderful job on the wands. It is neat to see the many different styles. I have been making some and enjoy the artistic freedom.

How did everyone like them? Have you sold any? How did you manage the thinnest parts? I get lots of vibration.

Nice work!

Haven't sold any yet, these were for neices and nephews, though this has been discussed as an option. I had a few problems with vibrations and even a few snap on me, but usually those were the dowels that didn't have straight grain from beginning to end. If you centers are aligned and u got a nice continuous grained peice of wood with sharp tools it actually when pretty smoothly most of the time.
