Project Information

I started this box close to a year ago. I had to let the burl dry out, then I got stuck on the lid. I finally decided a simple shape would work best. The inlays ended up being more of a challenge than I expected, but that's what makes it fun. I used SOSS hinges with no lift. I tried about 600 different ideas for a lift/handle but they all took away from the box instead of adding to it. For this one, you simple lift the front of the lid and it's lifts nice and easy.

The inside of the lid and the bottom will be lined with a emerald green microfiber as soon as I find the color I want. I am having a bit of trouble with finding the color I want for it. Once I find the liner material, I will add pics of it. Since the woodwork is done on this one, I count it as complete.

Thanks for taking a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks Ianwater

@Big Al, Thanks for the critique. Thanks for the time you put into it. The miter keys are 1/8 inch thick. If I had it to do over I would have made that top one thicker so that it showed on both the top and bottom, but I didn't know I was going to do it until I was trying to figure out where the lid needed to be cut off. If I revisit this theme in the future, I will probably carry the diamond to the sides as well, although I am not sure how good it will look. Maybe on a square box. It is something I will look into if the wood takes me in this direction again.

As always, thank you all so much for the kind words. This is one of those that has way to many hours in it, both in planning and sanding, but I love the out come and my client is happy, so it was worth everyone of them.

Thanks
Joey

Here you go everyone. I know I said the liner was going to be emerald green, but I found this awesome bamboo fabric at the store and my client loved it. I think it lends to the exotic feel of the burl. And I have extra, so I plan to design a box around the fabric once I have time.
