I have a similar setup and use it often. I have found that the fence rails start to sag after awhile so I plan to move my router to a dedicated table. Some of the guys over at the Ridgid forum have added a leg to the floor or 45 degree bracing.



Using a straight edge the bow is not as great as it looks in the photo but there is still some there. The router plate itself is one of those cast pot metal crastman tables with a home built (maple) fence/dust collector part.

I'd have to agree with adding a support leg or two under the table, as I've already noticed my extension to be tip-prone, and that's without a router hanging off it. For now, without a router hanging off, I'm thinking about rigging up a weight plate on the left side of the stand to help offset any right side tipping. Maybe a 25-35-pound weight plate will do it?

I definitely like your added dust collection too; a good idea that I'll have to keep in-mind.

I have the same saw, and this looks like a great setup. But I would definitely add support in the form of a leg or two. Those aluminum rails just aren't designed to support a router table.

I too own that saw. That's a pretty nice set-up but I agree that you should (A) have some added support and (B) don't leave the router in there when it's not necessary.

Yep, a leg might help but its not tip heavy as of yet. I drilled and bolted 3, 5/16 bolts to the cast iron table first and one on each rail for support. A removable leg will be added while working…. Thx guys

I also have that saw and I am worried about sagging also. A 45 support would be most practical but I wonder if it would be tippy if you were routing a large heavy peice of wood. Probably the best solution would be to remove the router and base plate when not in use and use a straight leg when using the router.

This post prompted me to go to MLCS and check out their table extensions. I already own a router quick lift system that I really like and a fence (Freud) that I really like so I have no need for the their insert or fence. I'm sorry to say that they will not sell their extension without selling their insert and fence. I was particularly interested in their cast iron version of the extension. I guess I will make my own - but it will not be cast iron.

After waking up thinking about some sugeetions here I will be building a retractable leg for the end of this table. Thx for the ideas.

If you have any plans on this or tips I have been thinking about adding one of these to my Ridgid TS and have been racking my brain on some of the particulars like how to mount it to the rails and table top without making it too beefy and also fairly removable. Please send me anything you got.

I know this post is really old, but I am building a router extension and came across it. How did it hold up? Did you find a support leg necessary? My initial thought was yes, but then again, if the router extension wasn't there, then there would be a cast iron extension which is pretty heavy too.
