I like it. Looks very delicate and a bit fragile. Definately does not look like it was made from wood.
The color reminds me of a certain fruit…....I don't know the name of them, but I have seen them in the store and always wondered what they taste like.

That's lovely. It reminds me of a raku pot. Is the surface sandblasted?

Well done texture and form. In the first & second photo it looks like rusted steel.

Very interesting techniques. It looks like a piece of rakuware or other earthenware. I like the form of this piece and the texture and colors are quite interesting. Because this is a piece of wood and it has been altered to not look like wood, I would like to see something to remind me that it IS wood that has been manipulated to look like a different media. Seeing the wood grain would make me realize just how much work has been put into the piece.

How about keeping a 1"-3" strip in the center or on top to reveal the wood grain (with or without stain technique) or even show some of the different steps of the technique in the surface so that the viewer can be educated to understand how difficult this was?

Otherwise, I do like the piece. But I would not understand the original form to the present work, thus not fully appreciate all of the techniques involved.

Keep up the good work!

Very interesting piece Joe….it has either a ceramic or iron texture and a pate that looks like it has been exposed to the elements for quite some time. Love your experiments….they are great inspiration to try something different….I really enjoy how you are pushing the envelope…Isn't it what the creative process is all about….

Have you tired of filials already? Are you planning on trying some more carving? Some of those combined would make an interesting piece?

It's a good thing that I'm not holding my breath waiting for you to kick out a piece that I don't like. You just keep taking it a step further and it always "turns" out great.

I just viewed your Beltline piece and thought that the technique you used here would look stunning combined with the Beltline's techniques.

~ I'm making room on the shelf for a "Trifern" piece ~
