Sycamore, Walnut, and LEATHER!

Kocked another one outta the park bro. Im itching to work with some sycamore, really lookin for some QS … how is it to work with? The leather work is awesome.

Andy, somehow when I was reading the story of this box, I completely missed that your friend did the leather work. I just thought it was cool that you found the leather of saved it from the trash bin but to finish the story and find out that your friend carved it….. Wow, what a way to honor your friends memory. Fantastic job.

What a nice job. I really like the leather top. The fact that it has become a testament to an old departed friend's skills in tooling leather is a tribute to you both and gives this box its own story. It is straight out of the pages of Louis L'Amor. This box deserves a title and this story needs to accompany this box…in writing.

When I sell boxes I always print out a one page write-up on expensive, heavy paper with each box. The write-up talks about these 5 things: How this box can be used. The story behind the box title and particulars about the trees whose wood I used. Some things that make this particular box special (grain, splines, fit, etc.) Something about my shop and methods of work. My philosophy of wood crafting, and a wish that they will "enjoy using this box as much as I enjoyed crafting it for you." I also include my Email address.

Though it follows a pattern, each write up is done individually for each box. It is not the same thing for all. Each box has its own title and its own story. I like thinking about titles for boxes as I am building them. It might take me an hour to write, but it is time well spent because it gives me a chance to really "SEE" the box I crafted and the wood in it. It is like bio classes where you draw what you see under the microscope and therefor see it in more detail.

The write-up helps me sell boxes because it is like a cheat sheet for customers to brag about their boxes when they get home. It is nice to tell them the story, but better if they can read it or have others read it. It has gotten me a lot of repeat sales.

For gifts I offer to re-write the first paragraph saying that this box was commissioned by x for y on z occasion.

Sorry, Andy, for rattling on about what I do and not saying more about what you do. The box is wonderful and the story priceless. Sell the sizzle.

Andy…your work is fantastic and getting profressively fantasticker…I really like the leather and wood combination. The sycamore has such a nice grain and you really brought out its beauty.

Andy, just give them to my wife. She can sell ice to an Eskimo. She can sell my projects 10x better than I can.

It's a beautiful box and the use of the leather in the top really sets it off.
