Project Information

Hello friends, I thank you kindly for all of your past comments on my Japanese Gift Box project, it is always great to hear from all of you. Thank you!

This was a project I toyed with off and on the last 2 months and decided to finish it and share with the group.

This was a small spoon that I challenged myself with to see if I could give the appearance of a swans neck flowing from the back portion of the handle. This was truly a challenge, not something I would want to do to every spoon…lol.

This spoon was carved from Silver Birch.

Thank you all for looking in, be well and have fun!

Joe

You achieved you goal of a swan like graceful appearance. I just hope the spoon is not as aggressive as a swan!

As I have never used it, how does silver birch carve?

A real beauty and pics 3 and 6 really show the "swans neck" you were trying to capture. Nice work.

Thank you all! I appreciate your comments.

Old novice Birch is a joy to carve and one of the main woods used for making spoons and bowls. Thanks for the question I hope you get a chance to carve some!

All the best friends,

Joe

Joe I crave to carve but I really need to pace myself with my RA. Sometimes 30 minutes at the PC does in my hands and wrists. I used to carve model railroad items, people, animals, trees, cars and the like but I didn't have any issues back then!

I bet that took some thinking. Not to mention skill and patience. It finished up great.

Joe nice to see the next stage developing
That has a nice feel to it, to the eye at least unless you want me
to do the porridge test?
One of my students brought me a bag of apple tree pruning s, boy
these were three year old, talk about hard. :) Still it was fun.
