Project Information

Thanks to GR8HUNTER heading up the band Surprise Swap 2020 has come to an amazing conclusion. The stuff that was received by all looks great and seems to be a huge hit. I had the pleasure of sending my stuff off to a Bill Berklich. A big thanks to him for posting nice reveal pics as well since it seems I had to borrow his pics.

The first thing is a bandsaw box with a pen pen holder in the top made from Ambrosia Maple and Sapelle on the outside. These are fun boxes to make. The second is a book rack out of the same woods, used the sapelle to make the bottom kick stand and the accent plugs. Again used the same woods to make a pen and pencil set with a bit of a twist as the pencil is one of the think lead workshop pencils.

Thanks for looking all and to those that were involved thanks for another fun swap. If anyone thinks they may have missed out I would like to suggest getting in on the upcoming swap. The Turning/Box Swap is already taking names. I'm looking forward to it as not only am I participating but my daughter is interested in getting involved in this one. For thoss of you that have some bored kids at home could be fun.

I especially like the bandsaw box. It's almost a hidden compartment. I can't wait to get a lathe so I can make pens/pencils like these. I like the thicker body on them.

Earl the pen kit I use a lot now is the Atlas kit from Woodcraft. Really like the weight and feel.

I like that heart detail on the corner of the pencil box; and I like that Bill noticed it and took a photo of it for us. Great work Chris. What I like most, of course, are thin mint G.S. cookies. Yum.

You Mericans with all your bloody big hunks of maple. No, really, I am not envious. I am stuck with tiny pieces that I overpay for. I mean, I "could" aquire larger hunks, but that would entail fending off the wrath of my better half. Why are you spending so much money on wood, she would say. Because, dear, you have to spend money to make money, I would say. Never works. Then I scurry out to my workbench.

That's what I like about surprise swaps, the creativity that comes out. This is an excellent set.
