Project Information

This desk was commissioned by a client who works with computers. He was very particular with the dimensions and placement of the foot rest at the bottom since he will be spending a lot of time on this working table. I particularly played with the drawers to show how the joinery splits to reveal the drawer guides and the drawer itself. The breadboards frames the desk top and also gives it a sense of structural stability. It is always nice to see a piece finished when all the choices of woods cohere with the specs and everything works out well aesthetically, functionally and structurally.

ALL WOODS USED FOR THIS WORKING TABLE ARE RECLAIMED (as with all of my projects)
Woods used:
Top & Stretchers: Dungon ( iron wood)
Breadboards: Saplungan
Legs: Molave ( Philippine teak)
Face drawers; Narra
drawer sides: Ipil

Dimensions:
Height 30"
Depth 30"
Length 72"

Gadzooks Benji, you have done it again! There are so many fantastic details on this wondrous piece and the more I look the more I find. I love that very original drawer treatment and of course everything else about it too.

Another original Benji leaves nothing to be desired. I've never seen that box joint drawer front thing before and I love it. Is that a gun drawer up under the desk? It's cool whatever it is. I always look for foot support when I'm heavy computing too I just never have had it integrated into the desk. Fantastic! How many hours do you estimate went into the piece and if you can share the price range at least, I'd love to know how much I need to start saving?

Pare,
Another spectacular piece. I love the keyed drawers and the forked stretcher into dual lower side rails. Are the tenons truly through the breadboard ends or faux? If they are all the way through, how did you manage to accommodate for wood movement in the top? Are you taking in apprentices? You are in a league of your own and I envy your gift.

Your style is quite unique and very handsome, not to mention that each piece looks very functional and comfortable to use. It's so wonderful to see such quality design and craftsmanship combined and the wood selections are quite beautiful too.

Lots of interesting features to catch the eye in this design. And the matte finish just sets it off! Great desk.
