Project Information

Well, I finished my first zoo. A stuff animal zoo, that is. Its roughly 24" square and just over 60" tall. I added "windows" on the side and the top is open for older sibling help (shooting baskets) when filling it up. The buyer is going to paint it white and/or pink and personalize the front "nameplate" at the top.

Oh, and it is built 100% from recycled wooden pallets! It's being painted, so my biggest concern was getting the same width and thickness slats to make the back and sides. I think there are four or five different types of wood in this project-I could identify pine, oak and ash.

Guess I'm not so smart…what are you, or the buyer going to use it for? Nice use of reclaimed wood

The buyer has three kids. They have an impressive stuffed animal collection. Now the stuffed animals will have a home, other than piled all over the bed, the floor and every other flat surface in their rooms. Thus, "Stuffed Animal Zoo" ;-)

Neat idea. Could use something like this to tame my daughters room.

Great project David. I guess I'll have to make one for my Grand kids for their stuffed toys.
I use pallet wood in my projects and the surprises are many. Roman

Thanks Chris and Roman. It was a fun little project. I've already identified some subtle little changes for a next one. A little different "mask" for where the bungees attach. Perhaps a board midway across the front with slots for the bungees to slip in, that will help hold the bungees in place as the cage gets filled. Little things.
