Workshop Information

Location
Cyprus
Been a woodworking enthusiast is not enough especially if you don't have a place to work and you leave in an apartment court.
In my case not only this was the issue but also I had no budget and space for big machines, so I came up to do the impossible for me.

So at my open air parking space which I have in my building there's a small storage room with dimensions a bit more than 5X5 feet (1.6X1.6 meters). In that space I decided to keep my workshop and work openly in my parking area.

This is how I started Woodworking!

If you want to know more about my workshop and the tool bench you can find an article in the Fine Woodworking magazine Tools & Shops annual issue (Dec.2010) "Think your shop is small? Think Again", or you can visit my Instructable on the "Smallest Workshop in the World"

Also my workshop set-up project was feature in the…
"Best Workshops" book from the editors of Fine Woodworking magazine (http://www.finewoodworking.com/item/106786/update-best-workshops-from-the-editors-of-fine-woodworking)
and…
"Extraordinary Projects for Ordinary People" book from instructables.com ( http://www.amazon.com/Extraordinary-Projects-Ordinary-People-Do-It-Yourself/dp/1620870576 )

If you like to follow the progress of My Workshop, you can do that in this "HERE": http://lumberjocks.com/steliart/blog/29484 in My Workshop blog.

Steliart, you certainly have done well with the space that you have available. One of my firm beliefs is that any shop is a good shop and yours is no exception. I don't think that many of us would even consider converting a 5×5 space into a shop but you have done a remarkable job. I especially like the mobile tool center that you built. And the mobile tool cabinet is an especially good idea for shops with a small footprint. This type of design enables quite a number of tools to be organized while occupying a relatively small space.

Thanks for the tour. I enjoyed visiting your shop.

Have you ever lived on a boat? Thats the only other environment I've seen management of space done this well.

No not on a boat, but as a designer i always loved the chalenge of fitting things in tight spaces, and believe it or not I would have done much more to that space if I didn't move to another city this summer. Now I a on the look to rent some space to set up my workshop. Bought all the machines and are still in the boxes cause I cannot find any space. The only spaces I can find are 500 to 1000 m2 and you need a months sallary for rent. So I am wopping for a break here. Can wait to get my hands on a workshop and start building that up.

Hey Steliart,
Now that is one cool set-up especially being so mobile…a "One stop shop for the lot"...good neat job.

Congratulations on the published article in FWW's Tools and Shops!
I spotted the article just a few days ago, while reading the magazine at my library…
And a great testament to how much you can do, with so little space.

I faved this to study your storage system! Sadly I can use half of a 2 car garage, but the driveway is way too steep to work on.
