Project Information
I had a client that liked my bar stools, but wanted a square base she saw in a picture and also wanted them upholstered.
Using the photo I was able to build the base.
Upholstering the seat would be easy, I would just build a plate for the backrest to go into like usual and then add a slip seat cushion. The tricky part was adding upholstery to the backrest without screws going through the back.
To do this I approached it like a boat seat that has a cushion that is buttoned on and can be removed. I steam bent some blanks to use for the cushioning.
For the seat plate I used 3/4" plywood and added some threaded inserts so they could be screwed on form under the seat.
I like the square bases, they seemed a lot easier than my round style. I have done them a few times before and they go together really quickly.
Once they were all upholstered it was time to build a crate again and get them on the way. I can't tell you how many jobs I have had now where I never have met the client, very few have I even spoken to. Works out well, some may say I am not really a good people person.
Thanks for taking a look.
