Went through what was left of the stash of Ash....nothing was very wide, and way too thick...got busy with the tablesaw to thin things down a bit..

Would have been nice that they were all as wide as that bottom slab....

Picked out the longest 4 that were about the same thickness and width....cleaned them up a bit. Tablesaw was used again..( don't worry, hand tools are coming, too)

Yes, it does read 80 degrees....for a 10 degree angle....

The thin plank underneath MIGHT just work for a bottom...and is 1/8" thick...the 4th piece for the sides?

Was over getting laid out for pins....

Had to re-adjust this gauge, from marking the pins on the end grain to then carry the lines down...saw time..

Jackson Backsaw (that I had just re-sharpened up).....then the chisel work..

Pins done, trace around these, to lay out the matching tails....then saw and chop

Dry fit...

Hmmm, going to be tricky, come glue-up time.....Lunch Break..then repeat the above for corner #2

2 corners done...back was saying it had had quite enough for one day...time for..

Will try again, tomorrow, eh?

Will also have a divider/handle to carry this Spoon Tray around with...

Stay tuned..

Ok, up-date time...got all the corners done..dry fit..

Decided the tray needs a handle...stock to make same was a bit...rough...

Picked the worst edge, and jointed that...

Then worked to flatten the faces...

Traced out a profile that looked like a handle...cut the profile on the bandsaw....was a bit of a rough cut
We have ways...

So...needed stopped dados to house this..

Ends of the handle match the splay of the tray's sides. Chisels to rough the dados out..

A router to level the dados out. Dry fit things to make sure the handle is the right size...

The things sticking up? Are cauls...without which a glue-up just ain't going to happen...

Also cut to match the splay of the sides @10 degrees. test fit a few clamps..

And, get ready for today's glue up...
The "Before" (calm before the storm?)

Bottle of glue at the ready, and a fresh glue brush....and away we go.......

Checked for square as I went along ( once you start a glue up like this, you can't stop..)

Diagonal clamp to pull things into square...let this mess sit a day...

Stay tuned...

Clamps have been removed..

Will need a bit of cleaning up..

Top and bottom edges were angled...were. They have been leveled out...

Worked on getting all the gaps filled and sanded smooth...then a bead of glue all around the bottom of the tray.

3 cauls that span across to help clamp the bottom panel in place....when the clamps come off, I'll plane the overhanging edges of the bottom panel flush with the sides.....ends? May use a saw....then sand it all smooth..and flat.

Thinking maybe a couple coats of Amber Shellac?

Stay tuned...
