Project Information

This is the third piece of a three piece collection (see my previous two posted projects for the complete set overview) for a client wanting to showcase her "Popeye" memorabilia. This is my first attempt at coopering and the glue-up was quite an adventure! The door consists of nine separate pieces, glued first in pairs and then to each other. Achieving even pressure without allowing the pieces to become misaligned as the curve increased was challenging. I used bending plywood for the inside and outside skins and top. The door catch is a pull ring mortised into the door so that it is disappears when closed. The door is also hung with pin pivot hinges which are nearly invisible. This was a challenging yet very fun project.

Great work. Doesn't even look like wood, really looks like a can. That sure was a lot of work and a really cool design.
