Project Information

A spice rack made from some old walnut I had lying around. I cut the trim pieces with a scroll saw and finished them off with a carving knife.

I did not go out of my way to sand this. I liked the rough look of it. It's finished with one of my all time favorite preservatives-used motor oil. And since it sits over a hot and steamy stove, any hardcore sealer would have been catastrophic to the wood.

Thanks!

I would think that used motor oil would be quite toxic around food. even not in direct contact, if it transfers to the hands . . . .

Really neat! I love the simplicity, yet its got a detail that takes it over the top.

Thanks, folks. A couple of years after I made this spice rack, I married the girl who asked me to make it for her. Woodworking for the win!
