Project Information

I haven't posted anything in a while here but wanted to share this table, it might be one of the more fulfilling projects I have completed in a while for a few reasons. It is constructed from a base of Hard Maple which has been dyed and stained a deep dark brown, and a slab of spalted Sweet Gum.

Anyone who was in Atlanta on March 14th of 2008 will remember that a tornado passed through downtown and the surrounding historic neighborhoods causing about 500 million dollars worth of damage to buildings and homes. The top of this table was cut from a tree that fell during that storm. I live and work in downtown Atlanta and am very proud to have created something so beautiful from the events of that day.

Another reason I am so pleased with this table is the fact that I have donated it to be featured in a silent auction fundraiser for a great cause here in Atlanta, CHRIS Kids. CHRIS Kids (Creativity, Honor, Respect, Integrity and Safety) is a non-profit organization that provides leadership for the community in the areas of child welfare, mental health, and prevention of youth homelessness. The CHRIS Kids team works very hard to bridge gaps in Georgia's foster care system for children with emotional and mental health challenges. You can learn more about the inspiring work of CHRIS Kids by visiting the website at www.chriskids.org.

I like this a lot although I think I'd have liked the ends of the top to mirror the curve of the end stretchers (just a thought)

Lovely piece of lumber on the top.

I love the legs on this piece. I have a slab that I believe is walnut, and I've been trying to figure out what I want the legs to look like when I make it a coffee table. Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm sure it helped raise a lot of money for a good organization.
