Inspired by my friend Doug Stowe's work, I wanted to show off this spalted persimmon with a rustic design. The four corner match is achieved by resawing the 1" thick persimmon in two then planing it down to 3/8". The wenge was left thick and the edges relieved to provide a drop in top. The 45 degree angles on on the top and bottom leave a thin line that accents the lines in the box joint. The handle was a 1/4" steel rod that was peened on an anvil into a square shape. Two 1/8" brass rods complete the connection to the lid. Finish is wipe on poly buffed with a cotton wheel on the lathe.

Really like that metalwork.
Grain match gets kinda lost in box-joints, I think. Just my opinion. Not a criticism.
