Project Information

Spalted maple and walnut nightstand with a butterfly (mahogany, maple) and dogwood tree branch inlay (purpleheart, maple). I made the drawer pull with spalted maple sandwiched between walnut. For the leg detail, I cut the corner off at a 45 degree angle, added a piece of walnut, squared it, then routed the corner to end up with the final detail.

Very nice work.
Is it inlay or marquetry and if it is inlay, have you tried marquetry?
Your dogwood is well done.

It is inlay. I already had the scraps for the branch, flowers and leaves, so I did it that way. I have not tried marquetry, though i'm sure it may have been easier to do this specific top using marquetry instead of inlay.

Thanks for the answer. You should try marquetry. You have a talent for this and I think you would enjoy it and excel at it.
