Project Information

I took a trip to Oregon Burls and got this Walnut Burl from Greg. I had bought the Sycamore on the internet and was waiting for some complimentary wood for a top. I finally put the two together. 9" x 6" x 6". A quick wash with BLO and then Watco Danish Oil. The second box has a top of Madrone Burl from Greg. It was a fun trip! The box is Claro Walnut and the bottom is Redwood Burl. Kind of a little surprise when you open it. 6" x 6" x 6". BLO and Watco Danish Oil. These were made to sell and I used my usual mitered corners and miter keys because it is fast for me. I still haven't used my Leigh Dovetail Jig!

Well done ! The woods are beautiful and you've inspired me to make some boxes with small pieces of figured wood that I've been saving : )

Thanks for the comments. I thought people would like the Burl from Greg! I bought some and he gave me some. What I use for boxes is often scrap for him, but I couldn't resist some of his nicer stuff. I got some Spalted Maple and a 9" x 9" x 4 " block of Walnut Burl to turn. I'm saving that for this summer when I have time to do it justice-I hope. He gave me a warped piece of Madrone Burl. I'm still looking at that one. I can keep my designs simple as long as I can find beautiful wood. Otherwise I might have to borrow some better design ideas from someone here!!
