Project Information

Here are some more Pens, Pencils and Coffee Scoops.
From the left:
The Coffee scoop is made from Coffee bean blank from Woodcraft.
Mechanical Pencil made from the same Coffee bean blank. I made this one for my Wife. She's an Accountant and uses it at work.
Cigar Pen from the same Coffee bean blank. I kept this one for myself. The Coffee Bean blanks are easy to work with, but when people say it will make your shop smell like Coffee when you cut it, they LIE :) It smells like burnt roasted Coffee mixed with the stench from the resin. I know a guy who owns a Coffee shop and know what burnt roasted beans smell like. I finished all of these with CA to hold in the beans.
The next is a Pen made from a Stabilized Corn Cob blank. I made this for my Father-in-law because he plants Corn every year. Wow, what an AMAZING PAIN IN THE BUTT those Corn Cobs are. They cut like butter, but you go a little, then you have to stop and squirt CA all over. Then wait. Then cut a little again, then more CA, etc etc etc. It took me 1/2 the afternoon just to make this one Pen :)
The Pink Ribbon Pen I made for my Mom who conquered Breast Cancer many years ago. That one wasn't hard at all, in fact it was too easy and I felt I hardly did anything when I was done with it.

I had to keep the corn cob pen huge or there would be nothing left of it. The bonus of that is my Father In Law is 80 and he likes bigger pens anyway.
The next time you feel lazy and tired when you are out in your garden remember this: This summer my FIL scaled back his garden because he says he's getting old. His idea of scaling back was to only plant 12 rows of corn - an acre long, 8 tomato plants - which get to be about 6' tall and 4' wide, 2 rows of Watermelons and 2 rows of cantaloupe - each and acre long, a 6' wide by 1/2 an acre patch of Vidalia Onions, a 6' wide by 1/2 acre patch of green beans, 5 Strawberry bushes, 5 Blackberry Bushes, and he tried some lettuce but it only fed the rabbits. I'm 1/2 his age and he has 10x the energy I will ever have. It must be all that well water, or the country air.
