Some of my pens

Did you use the mini corn from the Chinese Food Store.

A great design. It looks like all of the holes are filled in.

The rest are also very nice.

I would give the corn-cob pen a blue ribbon at the Iowa State Fair. Realy unique and well done.

Scott, I added some descriptions to the post, forgot to do that. Amazingly, those stabilized corn cobs are not anywhere near as tasty as one might think - even with lots of butter and salt!

Tim, the pens look great!! Did you stablize the corn cob blank before you turned it? The stain really makes your pen pop.

Jeff - the blanks I bought were already stabilized. I used the method of applying the CA as you described to fill in the gaps after applying the stain on the lathe.

I improved my photography based on a post here on LJ - Photographing Your Work
I use 1/4 of a business card as my stand and stack sheets of plain printer paper for the backdrop. Some simple manual settings on my camera (Canon A610) for the appropriate lighting and a tweak in a basic photo editing software gives some pretty decent results.

That just may be a couple of the best looking pens I've seen on the site - at least in my opinion. I really like th corn cob pen - and your photography just adds to the overall look. Good job. I used to enjoy turning pens - but I've turned so many of them over the years that I don't care if I ever turn another one. I do enjoy looking at other people's work though )
