Project Information

This is a chunk of Mesquite about 2" across. I turned on a lathe, then ornamented it on Lathezilla. 24K gold leaf inside. Sits on, not attached to, a bed of burned shavings. The outside of the piece was scorched and then wirerbushed. I rubbed in gold accent before coating with automotive clear coat. This is an auction item for public TV art auction in New Orleans.

Very cool piece, and very creative. Are the burned shavings cast together in a resin or is this just for picture purposes?

I really like your designs, and what is a Lathezilla? and how does it work. Great look!

Lathezilla is my Rose Engine. I built it, am still am, 7 years ago. I'll post a photo of LZII, which I built for my partner in crime. My girl works out daily and isn't as pretty. But she uses several cutters and routers to do what she does best.
The shavings are from something else, I glued them together with CA then painted them to look burned. It's a cradle to keep it from rolling away. It will be displayed on an electricl lazy susan.
