Wood And Materials Used
red oak, poplar
daughter wanted a small kitchen table for her apartment, just big enough for two at 30" x 36".
built this using red oak for the top and poplar for the base.
legs are attached using floating tenons, top is attached with z-clips.
i ended up making small corner blocks and screwing them to the aprons for a little added strength.
first time making tapered legs with a 1-trick pony tapering jig - so cool!

i'll put in a little work on the jig; remove the blocks i screwed in for the hold downs, add a set of rails so i can adjust the clamps, and use it to joint edges (maybe santa thinks i've been good enough to get a jointer this year!)

Look great! Nice to be able to customize the size. What did you use for the finish on the top?

actually having issues with that tonight.
originally i was going to use waterlox but there was too little left in the can. so started with a few coats of hand wiped poly. the open grain was way more noticeable than i wanted, so i'll have to sand the top and start over.

Finish for high use tables is a challenge so I'm always interested in what others use. I am diligent with using cloth mats on the table built for our kitchen (all meals happen there - no "dining room") - so far so good! Hope your sand and refinish goes smoothly. Very nice looking table.
