Showcase cover image for Small Box for picks

Project Information

Here is the box I made as a gift for Christmas '07. She stores her guitar picks in it? The pick in the shots for sizing. This project started as a hand plane. Purple Heart, Yellow Heart, Cedar and high dollar hinges. Hinges cost $30.00 but they were the only ones I could find that would do what I wanted. It was all done with hand tools.

cool box. what's the special thing you wanted the hinges to do? 30$ is expensive for hinges. she'll be able to store a lot of guitar picks in that. and keep them safe because my cousin plays guitar and he says that he needs to have around about 20 picks because if you make the mistake of putting it down you're probably never gonna find it again. great job.

Nice box.

I know what you mean about hinges being expensive. Lee Valley has some really inexpensive quadrant hinges that are pretty good. Nothing I would use on a $1,000 humidor, but good enough for the average box.

This is a nice box. What can be done with nothing but hand tools never ceases to amaze me. Up until recently I really was lax in my use of hand tools. If I had to make a single cut I would invariably drag out my miter saw rather than do it by hand. But since joining this community I have a new appreciation of the effort and skill it takes to produce a project with hand tools.

Great post.

This is a nice box, and certainly a worthy purpose for it. What is the lining?
