Drew, I like the simplicity of this. You have covered over the groove ends and have a simple and effective design for the pull. It is all straight forward and looks square. Nice choice of woods. I don't think flat end grain is especially attractive, but in this case you have solved so many design problems by using it that it makes good sense. Just for the sake of comparing ideas, these were my takes on a sliding top. Keep boxing and keep posting.
