Project Information

This is a reproduction of a platform bed that I normally order in. The last pictures shows the original. This customer wanted some storage drawers. Instead of modifying the stocked version, we built it from scratch. I love the design it is a clean look to it. The pedestal is a 12 drawer Captain's unit with a door kit on the end. Since it was a dark colors we used MDF on the platform support, everything else was maple.

The color was mixed to match the orginal. It is a dye stain, followed by a wiping stain and the the finish coats of lacquer.

I have built a king version of this in a custom color:

Hi Chris,

Nice job on this.

I watched the video on you ripping the plywood. I noticed you don't use a splitter. I know you're a professional and all but I've seen plenty of pros hurt by a kickback. Guys that would say I've been doing this for 30 years with no problem. It only takes a split second for things to go very wrong. Like when you're bringing the cut pieces back across the spinning blade.

Food for thought.
