Project Information

Here's another sketchbook. This one was made last year for my girlfriend as a christmas present. Its Mahogany in a decorative butcher-block style with sapwood as the spine. The idea for the design came from looking at piece of wood I had from a previous projects mistake. The end grain converged very nicely and I knew I could do something decorative with it. This was one of my first attempts at getting the sketchbook design down and I think it worked somewhat well. The name engraving is carved by hand and then gold leafed. Again the binding material was one of the few problems unresolved. The paper can be removed with the use of the screw posts

The finish is Bartley's gel varnish.

Here's another iteration of this same style but oriented differently and with a different binding method.

I have another sketchbook shown on this site so if you are interested feel free to look at my other projects.

I have more options for the sketchbooks on my website as well.

Thank you for looking,

I really like this design. Any secrets for how you attached the hinge material to the front and back plates?
