Project Information

Hi guys, this is the first of my pictures to upload thanks to the help from Kiwi Sharyn. I made this for a competition at Waiheki Island. 2007. Didn't win as there was only one winner. Enjoyed trying though. When I get more familiar with uploading I have a few more to share with you.
It is made of plantation pine and Macrocarper [drawer fronts]. The legs are alloy and made on a metal lathe .
I used white nylon chopping board for the coasters which are screwed to the legs. [throw nothing away!]
Each leg is held on with a plate and allan screw as are the joining rods between each unit.
The drawers are on full extention runners and the carcases are dovetailed.
It is about 1500mm long 450mm deep and 815mm high.

Hi there Christopher.Cupressus macrocarpa (Monterey Cypress, Macrocarpa; syn. Callitropsis macrocarpa (Hartw.) D.P.Little) is a species of cypress endemic to the central coast of California. In the wild, the species is confined to two small populations, near Monterey and Carmel.[2] These two small populations represent what was once a very large forest on the west coast. The surviving trees from this forest are as old as 2000 years.

Thats interesting. Thank you for the answer. I have a bunch of wood that smells like cinnamon when I sand it. I don't know if it is cinnamon or not but I love to work it!

Further to Andyboy's reply - macrocarpa is a common timber down here as the trees are planted as continuous windbreaks along fence lines on farms in windy areas - which pretty much defines the flat bits of New Zealand. Hard to find clears, most is merch grade. Smells great when worked.

Really like that cascade effect. Nothing better than good contemporary woodwork.

Hi guys, back after a long break from Jocks. Check out face book ( UCOL Furniture Design School). Thats what we have been up to and it will get more and more interesting as Mark adds all the cool stuff we have been doing. We will have videos, and over time demos of how we do stuff.

I tried to put this on my blog but gave up.

This is a fabulous piece! The design is creative, and the execution is so well done.
