My girlfriend wanted a bookshelf for her birthday last year, so this is what I came up with. It's mostly 3/4" maple plywood, edged with solid maple, and solid maple facia. Finished with Minwax Polyshade. I'm not entirely happy with the finish since it totally obscures the grain, but oh well, that's the color she wanted. It's about 3' tall by 4' wide and about 1' deep.
Most of the joinery is with pocket screws, which introduced a couple problems with fit-up. I might have rushed a little getting it finished in time but shhhh, she still doesn't know that .
