Project Information
When I saw in a magazine this carving mallet made out of black iron plumbing parts, I knew I should make my own.
The required items are : One 3/4'' to 1''reducer, one 6'' long 3/4'' coupling, one bicycle inner tube and fabric athletic tape (hockey). I added the white plastic cap to soften the end.
The plumbing parts well secured together, I wraped the coupling with several layers of athletic tape, very tight. Then, I threaded a length of the inner tube.
Finally, I rolled the head of the mallet on the spinning grinding wheel of my bench grinder to make it uniform. Then I polished it on a felt wheel using honing compound.
Now it's time to share this nice economical tool.
