Shop Built Table Saw Mobile Base

My neighbor brought over an 8’ 1x4 piece of fir the contractors left after working on his house and asked if I could find a use for it. Of course being a woodworker I knew I could and decided to make something I needed/could share for others who may need to move stuff around in their small workshops.

All other parts are stuff I had laying around already as you know we woodworkers don’t like to throw away any “possibly usable in the future stuff”.

I built this base for a Delta Hybrid saw I picked up a while back for some specific tasks. The design inspiration came from the Delta mobile base on my Unisaw.
The frame is made mostly from the fir with a few pieces of 18mm Baltic Birch scrap and the leveling feet (left over from a Kreg Work Stand) supports are made from a 6” piece of 8/4 birch I just never could throw away.

The lifting casters are from a set of workbench casters (I used the other 2 on other mobile bases I made) and I decided to use both so it wouldn’t tip when rolling like the ones with single casters sometimes do. The caster connector piece was originally made from an old fir table leg machined down to 1 1/4” square however I replaced it with this angle Iron bracket used for the shelf on my Unisaw that I never used.

I couldn’t find a usable pair of fixed casters so I doubled up on the wheels I salvaged from a set of worn out 3” swivel casters.

I cut a scrap piece of 1/8”x1 1/2”x1 1/2”x36” angle iron in half to support the saw and bolted it directly through to the lifting caster brackets so it does not rely on the strength (or lack of) of the fir.

I sprayed the base with Herculiner Do it yourself bed liner after priming with Rustoleum and bolted it to the flange on the bottom of saw base so it wouldn’t slide around like my Unisaw does.

The saw lifts and rolls easily without tipping like my Unisaw with the single swiveling caster. I’ve built several mobile bases over the years and this is definitely the best one so far.
