LumberJocks Woodworking Forum banner

Project Information

I've been madly preparing for a show that opens up this weekend at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, MT This show is all about woodworking and is showcasing some extremely talented woodworker from our region (including other lumberjocks Todd Clippinger and Scott Morrison). Here is one of the two pieces I have in the exhibit. It was an experiment of the creative process, in that I had no plans or expectations as I started working on it. I allowed the work to be as much about the process as the end product. A few sketches and some experimenting allowed me to work out the critical details while I spent most of my time responding to the grain flow and organic whiplash lines of the base.

The table top is made from a unique book-matched set of tulip poplar and the table base is made from maple to accent the sapwood of the tulip poplar. The legs are actually in a tripod configuration and are one continuous flowing organic shape.

It is finished with hand-rubbed polymerized linseed oil. The show opens this weekend at the Museum of the Rockies and will run for three months. I will be doing some documentation of all the works that are on display, so stay tuned…

I'm just starting in the "raw wood" top style of tables, on my second now. Nothing like this! Beautiful work! I have to think more out of the box. Love the leg design. Thanks for posting!

You did an outstanding job on the design, build, and finish. Not familiar with "polymerized linseed oil" but that is a beautiful finish. More details on that finish would be appreciated if you have time.

Kind of looks like a wooden surfboard on top of some waves.
Beautiful table. Love the flowing shapes and the unique wood used for the top.
