Project Information
A couple years ago after my grandpa passed away, I knew I wanted to make something to display the shell casings from his funeral (he was in the Navy). After some time passed, I settled on this design after I saw something similar on the internet. I ended up making four display cases, one for my dad, one for me, and one for both of my brothers.
The cases are made out of gaboon ebony with curly maple for the back. I also ended up having them engraved on the front. Since the engraving was very small and shallow, which I wanted, it was not very visible in the ebony. I ended up waxing and buffing the boxes to fill in the engraved part which made it show up white. Also, the entire top comes off to allow access to the shell casing and also in the case the I would need to replace the glass I can slide it out that way.
Thanks for looking.
