Project Information

This is a gift I just gave my dad for his bday. He's had a '68 Shelby Mustang that's cherry red with white stripes that matches the one you see in the ad. I bought the ad on eBay, which is an actual magazine ad from '68 when the car came out. The design mimics the cherry and white stripes that run along the bottom sides fo the car.

I chose Bloodwood (thanks to LJs recommendations) and American Holly, both of which I ordered online. The Holly came in 5" strips, so I had to shave multiple inserts down to size, first with a table saw and then down further with a block plane. I also built the spline jig (pictured) to add strength to the miters..but really for a bit more detail. A fun project and a cool gift…i set the bar high for upcoming family bdays!

Great gift idea. I like the combined/inlaid holly wood too. This one will be tough to follow up on the next birthday!
