Sheet Goods and Wood Storage Cart

Very nice storage unit. I like the way you added the "cradles" to the racks. It makes them more useful.

Wow I know the feeling of a shop being next to useless because of too much wood taking up space. Just picked up a nice Lumber cart myself yesterday. Wow does it make a difference in the flow and usability of the shop. You did a fantastic job building yours.

Really nice. I've seen these before made with a sheet of ply for the sheet goods side. I like your design, lighter weight and less expensive to build. I need to make one of these! thanks for the idea!

I recently sold my Unisaw, as I have been using my Festool TS-55 for pretty much all cutting, so the Unisaw's expansive horizontal table, which used to hold all my shorter pieces of hardwood (large pieces lean against the shop wall, of course) is no longer available. When the Unisaw left, the shorts were piled on the floor (or on top of who knows what else is hiding underneath them). I also have sheet goods (in the 3' - 4' range) leaning against a bandsaw. Consequently, I have had a lumber storage cart on my "to do" list, and I like this design, as it looks like it will work with both my "shorts" and sheet goods. Do you have dimensions? Length and width of the base, and height of verticals, along with their top and bottom lengths (to get the "lean" angle) would be great. It looks like you used "shelf standards" on the back of the verticals, and the shelves are a great touch.

Thanks for posting the Sketchup file. Now, I'll have to look through my cutoff sheet goods and see if I have what I'll need. From the Sketchup file I noticed that you extended the vertical supports all the way down to the underlying base. Upon looking at the photo of the bottom of the cart, it looks like you did that on the actual cart. While I'm sure that that added to the strength of the unit, didn't that make it a bit tricky to fit the bottom (with the verticals extending through it)?

I've added some assembly tips above which I hope answers Sandy's questions.
