Showcase cover image for Sharpening Plate Holder

Project Information

Hi All

After a recent purchase of diamond sharpening plates, I wanted to make a holder for them so that I could more conveniently use them at my bench.

I wanted something that would act like a bench hook and would allow me to bring out my little sharpening station and put it away in one hit.

I used a reclaimed board of softwood for the project, I actually managed to pull four of these boards from a skip/dumpster. They measure around 60" x 11" x 1" great or what!

Made using only hand tools, I really enjoyed this little project. OK it is more on the simple side, but when you have a fledgling workshop like I do, you have to spend some time on getting the basics done.

Next up for me is tool storage, decisions decisions…..

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions I'd really appreciate some feedback.

Thanks all

~Alistair

WOW. Nice job leveling the field with the chisel router plane.

Great score on the wood too.

Thanks Swirt. I think it can be amazing the kind of results you can get with makeshift methods sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I would love a nice Veritas Router Plane, but until I get one, the chisel method will serve me just fine.

Looks like a great setup. Wish I could find free wood like that.

Thanks Brian.

Yeah I couldn't believe my luck when I saw them just lying there. Best find I have had by far.

Simple and great looking! Scandinavian style ;-)

Would you mind sharing your thoughts (and brand) after using these stones for few month?

Thank you
