Project Information

Having been in the woods picking mushrooms, I was inspired to make these simple shallow relief carvings. Here is a simple project anyone can do, all you need is some square scraps, I used black alder and a couple of carving tools.

I initially sketched the image on the blocks with a pencil and cut in the outlines with a V tool. Some (very little) relief was ten given. The colours are from my kid watercolour paints. The finish is Tung oil and wax.

They are very easy to do, take less than an hour each and would make a great weekend project.

I like the coloring effect on these. They would make a great 'grouping' in a kids room.

The paint effect is real easy to do, just use thin washes of watercolours.

Interesting carvings! The third and sixth 'shrooms look suspiciously like Amanita Muscaria. Careful, now!
