Project Information

The chair is beech, and the table is beech, poplar, and silver maple. The beech is finished with wax only. The table is painted with milk paint with wax over. I adapted the table from Ejner Handberg's book of measured Shaker furniture. The chair is in the style of the Shaker community at Enfield, New Hampshire, using Kerry Pierce's plan. The drop leaf allows the table to be moved closer to the wall when not in use. My wife will be using these for sewing.

Beautiful work and a stunning result Johnny! I love the milk paint too. We have an almost identical traditional chair design which originated here in our district (SW Norway), and though very slim and lightweight they are rock solid, as I am sure, your's is.

Great pieces. I love the shaker style, I've been trying to reproduce several pieces that I saw in Enfield.

I have flipped through that book many times. This set fits together in a very elegant and understated way. That is hard to pull off.

Beautiful pieces both, Johnny B. The essence of [Q][Sh]aker simplicity… :)
