Maple shelves handcut dovetails..my favorite task of all time.THe finish is danish oil with a wipe-on poly. A Simple design to fit into a spare bedroom. The hanging cabinet is pine..distress, stained,sealed, painted and antiqued. I like these designs.The walnut boxes on the selves are things I love to make from scraps from different projects.

awesome design! is the front of the top shelf beveled to match the angle of the sides?

big fan of Shaker here and I love these. How did you distress that cabinet alongside it? Milkpaint over ebonized or vice versa? Excellent work.

yes the shelves are beveled. This operation was done prior to final fitting into the side…this way the bevel ended up exactly flush with the side. the back end can then be planed to the sides width.

Antigue the blue cabinet…..stain with an oil stain (dark color). then seal with shellac….paint another color latex on top I used a brick red. Again seal with shellac…noe use an color …here I choose solder blue..letting it dry. lightly sand through the color to allow the undercoatds to show threw. I sealed again with shellac …used a dark walnut oil stain and wiped roughly, allowing the stain to accumulate in ther corners and distressed areas which were done with a group of keys, prior to the all finishing procedures, Hopefully this will give you some interest to trying this. You cannot do anything wrong…its all experimental and fun
