Project Information
Well this was my first shot at a shaker inspired dresser and at hand cut joinery. I wanted to make something that was a tribute to woodworking in the mid 1800s. I think it's close but with some modern touches. The carcass and drawer fronts are made from soft maple (some figured/curly) and the drawer sides are beech. The back panel is a beech frame with maple ply. The interior frame parts are all mortis and tennoned (24 joints total). The upper drawer center divider has sliding dovetails. The bottom skirt and all drawers have blind dovetails. I might go a little thicker on the dovetail pins next time for the drawers. Overall it turned out well, defiantly not perfect, after like 80 hours of work. My hopes are that it lasts long after me.
