Showcase cover image for Shaker Bench with reclaimed wood

Project Information

Well I'm posting the pure wood project here. There will be a paint job done to it because the wood was stained with oil, years of sun and rain.
Here are some photos of the process.
The rail was going to be a wedged through mortise and tenon, but the mortise just broke in both legs so I had to come with another solution. It actually worked!

The legs with the traditional design

The bottom part assembly

The top was mortised after into the legs, and all the top rests onto the cross rail (I actually glued it into place)

That looks great. I like the joinery you came up with. That wood looks great. Forgo the paint and try a bit of ammonia or dish detergent to break down the oil, or oxalic acid for the stains.

Thank you Swirt!
This was an addon to a very old workbench, it has soaked oil so deep that I think it survived to the weather because of that. The paint is for my daughter's delight, I do like the natural colors of wood and marks of time.
