Nice bowls. I love the segmented stuff! What glue do you use? What finish do you use? Do you think they can/will actually be used for salads? Have you used other segmented bowls for salads? How will they hold up being used and washed?

Dennis (drbyte), I use Titebond II for glue and finish them with General Finishes' Salad Bowl Finish (available at Rockler). I have used other bowls for salads. The bowls need to be washed with a mild dish detergent and dried promptly. No soaking or dishwasher.

None of my bowls have needed refinishing but the bowls can be refinished by rubbing the surface with 0000 steel wool then wiping on additional Salad Bowl Finish. My neighbor had an old wood salad bowl that had not been treated well. We sanded it and applied several coats of Salad Bowl Finish with a great result.

Thanks for your questions.

What a gorgeous set. I hope those grandkids inherit some of your talent, too.

Well, the bowls sold for $200 which is slightly disappointing. But, the school is money ahead and my son was able to apply the time it took to make the bowls towards the volunteer time each family gives to the school.
