Project Information

This represents many days and hours of work, redesign, redoing, I had a finish on and thought I was almost done, I noticed some scratches that could only be seen with a finish on it, so trying to get rid of them I took one last turn with a turning tool and BAM pieces flew across the room, the last picture shows all that I found, there is no way to repair it. over 500 pieces, 8 different woods. After all of the problems I had with this bowl I should have known it was not meant to be.

OMG! And, also, ouch, in spades. Most people just don't know how much of ourowbadselves we put into the stuff we do.
It was a terrific looking piece, Smitty.

Sad, still beautiful work and the next one will be easier. Nothing I could write would make you feel better about it. I and probably many others know the feeling sometime in our wood working careers.

It happens to us all. I would still try to re-glue the pieces. What can it hurt?

Julian, I can't find all of the pieces, one piece I did find was very small, so I"m sure there are more too small to find.

Well, now I am overwhelmed, I had no intentions of ever getting in the "Top 3". I put it on here, I guess as a way to vent, and to show what can happen no matter how careful you are or how near to being done with a project something can go wrong. I never expected a broken down project to make it this far.

Hate when I put a lot work in something only to have to fall messed up because I couldn't leave well-enough alone.
You could take the rim off and clue on another and try again.

That's got to be heart braking.

I think I would have a brake down if that happened to me.

What an impresive variety of woods, colours and patterns.

You are truly an artist! To become that good, you must have had similar setbacks before and still endured. This is just the latest. I, on the other hand, would be so upset, words would not be enough. I would have to smash something.

Ah, the dedication of an artist to his work. You only notice the little imperfections when you are making something like this yourself. I don't think quite so many people would be so discerning, so give yourself a little credit! The final bowl is definitely a unique and beautiful piece!
