Project Information

I'm new to LumberJocks… and new to wood turning too, for that matter.

This is project #4 for me; inspired by the design in a Southwest style area rug in our home. Lots of pieces in this one: 337 to be exact.

Turned out OK for a beginner!

I'm pretty sure these projects are addictive. I'm beginning to understand why my father said, after he retired: "I need to go get a job so I can get some rest!" :)

Update:
Wow! I didn't realize what a resource I had found when I discovered Lumberjocks. Thanks for the kind comments.

As an afterthought, I'm adding a link to a time lapse video I made the day I turned this bowl (which video was also an afterthought-never had done that before-and certainly never figured I'd actually post it anywhere.) I hope I'm not exposing too many amateurish techniques (please feel free to make suggestions!), and remember the old adage: "A cluttered shop is a happy shop!" (Don't know if that really is true, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.) Here's the link:

Update 7/31:

This is No Bull!

-My neighbor was pretty impressed when I told him I'd entered a bowl in the County Fair-until he realized it wasn't spelled "B-U-L-L".

Still, I did all right. I think the prize money is $5. I've always told my wife that someday my woodworking would pay off!

Great looking bowl, nice job on the Southwest, love the simplicity of the design, but it projects well. Welcome to Lumberjocks.

Knocked it out of the park. I am trying to do a segmented bowl. 3 layers. Do you have any tips? Do you have any websites or blogs with good info for beginning segment turners? Thanks.

They pretty much summed it up!

I think it is marvelous too.
I have always been a fan of "southwestern style" anything.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind remarks. They are very encouraging. Due to many helpful hints from fellow woodworkers, especially on YouTube, I've been fortunate enough to complete a few wood turning projects without having to learn all the lessons the hard way.

I'm excited to have discovered LumberJocks. As I've visited a few of your galleries, I can't believe the talent that is represented here! Lots and lots of inspirational ideas too. Now all I need is more time!

Thanks, again.
