Scupper Grate

Back to boat work this week, the new owner of a Westsail 32 needed scupper covers port & stbd. for side deck drains. Made a template for the port side and I'm here to tell you, in 44 years of custom shipbuilding this is the 1st time the other side of the boat was what we call equal and opposite. Turned the template over and it fit. Moving on, the owner had a piece of teak left by a previous shipwright that afforded about 80% of the material required. Lots of dados with mortise and tenons combined to create a strong and functional grating. The end result speaks for itself. Had enough left over to make a trivet for the galley.
