Gary Katz has shown two methods to check and set a mitre saw for square cuts:
Two-cut calibration
I used the four-cut method:
The first pic shows the cuts made to get the square and mitre (right & left) settings tuned. It took me well over an hour to get them right!
The last two pictures show that the 90-degree setting is dead-on. (The four-cut method will give you a more accurate reading than the two-cut method which is, however, simpler.)
Tip: Check and set your mitre cuts (45 degrees, right and left) FIRST. They are the most difficult ones to set right (at least that was the case for my Kapex) before setting for the 90-degree cuts. I wasted the first round of time used for setting the square cuts because the 90-degree setting no longer held after getting the mitre-angle cuts right.
